HONEY AIN'T THE SAME AS SUGAR.

We started our farm because of a desire to eat healthy. Our health credo is simple - cut out the chemicals, eat natural, eat real food.

Ok, honey and refined white sugar are both sweeteners and are both calorie dense foods. But when feeding your sweet tooth, there is no question that honey is better for you than white sugar. Here are 7 reasons why:

1. HONEY IS SWEETER, SO YOU CAN USE LESS
A few months ago, a customer stopped by our farm to buy some honey. During our convo he mentioned that he had stopped eating white sugar, and had replaced it with regular honey and as of late, Kick’n Honey too. With this change, he had lost over 10 pounds over the course of this year. There are two things going on. #1. Honey is sweeter and you naturally will start to use less. Once your sweetness level is hit, you stop. #2. Honey has been proven to increase your “satiation” when you eat. That’s the feeling of being “full”. You get full faster, you lose weight.

2. HONEY DOES NOT SPIKE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR LIKE PROCESSED SUGAR DOES
Honey and processed sugar are both carbohydrates. And they both contain two primary sugars: fructose and glucose. But processed sugar is 100% sugars (50% fructose and 50% glucose), while honey is about 85% sugars with fructose and glucose ratios that vary just a bit. The remaining 18% of honey is water, pollen and trace nutrients and in the case of Kick’n Honey, peppers. Because of this different makeup, processed sugar is absorbed into the body and blood at a faster rate than honey. Sugar absorption is measured by the glycemic index (GI). White sugar has a GI of 65, while most honey has a GI that ranges from 35 to 55. This means that honey will provide more evened out levels of energy, over a longer period of time, as compared to white sugar. I can personally attest to this as I have suffered from “sugar highs” my whole life. With honey, I’m as steady as a rock.

3. HONEY CONTAINS IMPORTANT NUTRIENTS
Processed sugar contains sugars and nothing else. But raw honey contains additional nutrients, including amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. These phytochemicals have anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-oxidant properties which can contribute to a stronger immune system and better health and wellness. We go to great length to infuse Kick’n Honey at very low temperatures for a short amount of time, better preserving the “raw” nature of the honey we use.

4. CONSUMING HONEY PROVIDES ADDED HEALTH BENEFITS
In addition to providing your cells with needed energy and boosting your immune system, raw honey offers several other important health benefits. Honey is a proven cough suppressant and it also relieves sore throats. For many people, honey helps to moderate the sinus and throat irritations caused by pollen allergies. For some people, raw honey completely eliminates their pollen allergies. Honey is also easier to digest as compared to processed sugar, and can promote better sleep too.

5. HONEY TASTES BETTER THAN PROCESSED SUGAR
I’m old enough to flat out tell you, modern sugar does NOT taste like sugar we had as kids. Not sure what’s going on there but, white sugar tastes like . . . white sugar. But honey is so much more than just a sweetener. The flavors and complexities of raw honey are varied and wonderful. From light to dark. Kick’n Honey in our humble opinion tastes even better. Through science and a bit of magic, the bees convert nectar into raw honey which then delights and nourishes honey lovers all over the world.

6. SUGAR CONTAINS HIGH LEVELS OF GLYPHOSATE
It sucks, but Glyphosate is used as a “ripener” in the sugar industry. Glyphosate is used in almost all sugar beets grown in the US. The concern has risen in recent years, but the chemical companies have complete control over the USDA - and that’s just a fact. Google it... it will depress you.

7. MOST SUGAR IN THE US COMES FROM SUGAR BEETS, NOT SUGARCANE.
Sugar is a processed product, made in a factory with all the things factories like to do. It’s called - follow the money, or in the case of the sugar industry - follow the profits. Big honk’n sugar beets are cheap and easy to grow thus, most of the white sugar you buy in the store is made from sugar beets, not cane.

Balance the sweets. If you’re slam’n down a bottle of Honey every few days, we’d tell you to slow down. Balance out the diet and enjoy the flavors. But, when everything is on the table and you compare sugar to honey - their ain’t no contest - honey wins every time.
